Focus and Scope

The Materials Engineering - Materiálové inžinierstvo journal publishes original scientific articles focused on evaluation of metallic and non-metallic materials properties, on investigation of relationships between the microstructure of materials and their mechanical, physical, chemical and another macroscopical properties and on methodology of materials properties evaluation.

Original Scientific Articles

The new scientific information have to published in the Original scientific articles. The authors define scientific problem in Introduction and the main scientific contribution is given in Conclusion part. The conclusions must be based on scientific discussion (interpretation).

Open Access Policy

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.


Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

1. Publication and authorship:

  • Authors are fully responsible for the submitted manuscript content.
  • Authors are responsible to confirm the manuscript originality and to acknowledge and cite content reproduced from other sources, and to obtain permission to reproduce any content from other sources. Authors are obliged to cite and acknowledge others’ work appropriately; only works they really used for their study and in the form following the instructions for authors should be mentioned in the paper. Authors are obliged to avoid plagiarism of others’ work.
  • Authors are responsible to mention all the financial support sources in the acknowledgement of the paper.
  • Authors have to avoid multiple publication of the same work, never submit your manuscript to more than one journal at a time. It is highly forbidden to publish the same results which were already published elsewhere.
  • Uploading the manuscript authors confirm the submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration. Extended version of the paper can be published if it contains also new results and discussion comparing to the shorter previously published version, however previously published results have to be noticed and also the shorter version publication has to be noticed in the paper body and adequately cited. Previously published version has to be available for editors.
  • Authors are obliged to immediately notify the journal editor if a significant error in their publication is identified.


2. Author's responsibilities:

  • All the authors of the manuscript are responsible for the originality and authenticity of the presented results and had to significantly contribute to the research.
  • Authors are obliged to follow the instruction for authors while preparing the manuscript.
  • All the authors are obliged to participate on the review process; to provide reactions on the reviews and perform necessary corrections of the manuscript.


3. Reviewer's responsibilities:

  • By accepting to review the manuscript the reviewer confirms understanding of the reviewed topic.
  • Reviewers have to assure the objective judgment of the reviewed work. No conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the research funders is acceptable for the reviewer. All the asked reviewers are obliged to inform the journal editor in case of such situation and refuse to review the manuscript.
  • The main point of the reviewer is to assist in improving the quality of the manuscript by reviewing it objectively, in a timely manner.
  • Reviewers have to fill up the review form via the journal online system, responding the questions about the language quality, research and results quality and also the formal quality of the manuscript. Review should determine the importance of findings and clearness of the publication.
  • Reviewers should compare the reviewed manuscript with previous publications of the authors and by publications dealing with the same topic, to detect and prevent plagiarism and fraud.
  • Reviewers should point out relevant published works not yet cited in the manuscript.
  • Reviewers have to pay attention to treat the reviewed manuscript confidentially; to maintain the confidentiality of any information supplied by the editor or author.


4. Editor's responsibilities:

  • Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept publishing of the manuscript.
  • The decision to accept or reject the manuscript has to be based on the paper quality, importance, originality and clarity.
  • No conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the research funders is acceptable for the editor.
  • Editors have to ensure to act in a balanced, objective and fair way while carrying out their expected duties, without discrimination on grounds of gender, sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs, ethnic or geographical origin of the authors.
  • Editors ensure the same quality of the published papers and journal issues.
  • Editors will promote on the online system new, author corrected, publication in case when errors are found on the published paper.
  • Editors have to handle all the submissions in the same way, following the standards of the journal, without political, carrier or financial influence.
  • Editors have to pay attention to treat the manuscript confidentially; to maintain the confidentiality of any information supplied by the reviewers or authors.


5. Publishing ethics issues:

  • Editors implement remarks of authors, readers and reviewers to journal editorial policy with the aim to improve the journal processes.
  • Editors periodically ask editorial board members for their opinion about journal’s processes and inform them about the changes in journal publishing.
  • Editors should consider retracting a publication if it reports unethical research or it constitutes plagiarism or the results have been previously published (without proper cross-referring).
  • Funders and sponsors have no rights to veto to publish the obtained results when the authors do not favor their products or position. Incorrect data, non-original results or infringe of the journal policy or ethical standards are reasons to decline to publish the uploaded manuscript. Only in case of exceptional circumstances, such as research classified by governments because of security implications, the agreement permitting the funders to control the publication of research findings are acceptable. Authors are fully responsible to follow the agreement with funders and its rules. The funders have right to contact the editors and ask for the paper retraction in case of infringement of their agreements with authors, while the agreement will be available for editors.
  • If the editors received the information from readers of the journal that publication contains a significant error, the authors have to collaborate in correcting the paper. Of course, author of the article have to notice the editor if she/he found a significant error in the published article. She/he have to collaborate with editor to correct (or retract) an article.
  • Uploading the manuscript authors agree with the rules of publication that submitted paper should be original and has not been published elsewhere in any language. Exceptions are accepted in case of action which has to be accepted by editors. In such case this have to be noted in the paper body and the other publication has to be available for editors.
